A terraforming project saw masses of nanobots dumped onto the planet, meant to adapt to the environment and take steps to increase its fertility.This has come back to bite it, as no one stays long enough for it to get onto their ship and escape the island prison. With nothing but time on its tentacles, it’s shaped every square inch of the island into something deadly. This is all the work of a forest blight, stranded far out at sea after the ship it stowed away on crashed. A tiny island far out at sea has a reputation for its hostility, its jungle-covered shores seemingly infested with venomous wildlife and toxic plants.Complicating matters to seek the cause of the blight, the world tree’s sap has gained a twisted sentience with the infection, seeking to purge all it views as an intruder from the branches. The rot threatens to see whole worlds lost to the void between as the branches supporting them snap off, a fate which could result in legions of devourers crawl from the ruined worlds into those remaining. Yggdrasil has fallen sick, an infection creeping through its branches.But with protoplasmic armor and a higher intelligence score than most fighters, the forest blight could be a campaign boss on its own. It’s nice to see some oozes who can go toe to toe with high level adventurers, as most are severely hampered by their low ACs and lack of intelligence. Originally meant to drive out enemies by terraforming entire sections of land into something hostile, the intervening centuries without control have seen them regress to destroying all traces of civilization. On top of that, all plant monsters in the area gain fast healing to make them even more of a pain.īlights are weapons of war, created by the serpentfolk in ages past. All spells meant to manipulate or control plants within its domain fail unless they beat the blight at a caster check, and the entire forest is considered difficult terrain as the plants clutch at intruders. On top of that, Living Forest (Su) establishes it as the master of its domain. Besides spells like wall of thorns, greater curse terrain, and command plants, Lignification (Su) lets it infect those it strikes with a virus that slowly transforms them into a tree. Or an intelligence score.Ī forest blight is a CR 18 foe, an ooze with powers over forests and jungles. That’s weird, since most oozes don’t have eyes.
